What to wear with period underwear

With a pad
Stick the pad to the gusset as you would in any brief. The lining beyond the pad covers the front and back edges.
With a tampon or cup

At night
Sleeping is where the front-to-back lining earns its keep, because lying down sends things in directions a pad does not cover.
